Plot Summary

Introduction

In the kingdom, it is forbidden to spank, whip, or otherwise punish the prince. Instead, a whipping boy is appointed to take the punishments meant for the prince. Jemmy, an orphan from the streets, is chosen for this role. Prince Horace, known for his mischievous and spoiled nature, frequently gets Jemmy into trouble.

The Escape

Prince Horace makes the decision to flee the castle since he is sick of living as a prince and having to put up with Jemmy’s continual punishments. He has Jemmy go with him because he believes the streetwise child would help him get by in the real world. Reluctantly, Jemmy accepts, seeing an opportunity for his own escape.

Kidnapped

Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater, two infamous criminals, arrest the youngsters as they attempt to flee. The prince will be held hostage for a large amount of money by the criminals. But they think Horace is the whipping boy and Jemmy is the prince. In an attempt to rescue himself and Prince Horace, Jemmy chooses to comply.

Adventures and Friendship

Jemmy and Prince Horace meet a variety of people on their journeys, such as a good-hearted potato guy and a girl named Betsy and her dancing bear. The two youngsters gain mutual trust and a true friendship as a result of their voyage. As Prince Horace realizes the repercussions of his behavior and the difficulties Jemmy has had, he starts to transform.

The Rescue

Jemmy comes up with a scheme to outwit the kidnappers and get away by using his cunning and ingenuity. They escape the criminals and make it back to the palace with the aid of their newfound companions. Prince Horace has changed at this point and recognizes the importance of loyalty, friendship, and humility.

Resolution

Prince Horace defends Jemmy back at the palace, making sure that he is no longer subjected to punishment on his account. Having gained important life lessons from their common experiences, the prince and the former whipping boy maintain their close relationship.
