Grade 3 Reading Comprehension- Part 5

Comprehension Passage: The Library Adventure

Sophie loved visiting the school library. Every week, her teacher, Mrs. Patel, reminded the class to return overdue books and explore new titles. Sophie especially enjoyed reading adventure stories, mystery books, and biographies of famous scientists. The library felt like a magical place where she could travel to faraway lands without ever leaving her chair.

One rainy afternoon, Sophie carried her backpack to the library. She had finished her last book and was eager to find a new story. The soft smell of books and the quiet rustle of pages made her feel calm. She waved to the librarian, Mr. Chen, who smiled and suggested, “You might like the new mystery section. We just added some books about detectives and secret codes.”

Sophie’s eyes lit up. She loved mysteries! She wandered to the shelves and carefully pulled out a book titled The Secret Key. The cover showed a small golden key and a map. Excited, Sophie found a cozy corner with a big chair and opened the book. As she read, she imagined herself solving the puzzles and following hidden clues alongside the story’s characters.

Halfway through her book, Sophie heard a soft thump. She looked up and noticed a small stack of books had fallen off a nearby shelf. She rushed over and picked them up, arranging them neatly. One of the books had a note tucked inside: “Follow the clues to discover the hidden treasure.” Sophie’s heart raced. Could this be a real library adventure?

Carefully, she read the note. The first clue led her to the encyclopedia section. Sophie scanned the titles and found a book about famous explorers. Inside, a second note said, “Look under the table where stories of animals rest.” Sophie ran to the animal books and found another small note taped under a table.

Excited and curious, Sophie followed each clue throughout the library. She moved past shelves of fairy tales, picture books, and history books. Each clue was cleverly hidden and challenged her to think carefully. She smiled as she solved each puzzle, feeling like a real detective on a mission.

Finally, the last clue led Sophie to a large, colorful rug in the reading area. Underneath, she found a small wooden box. She opened it carefully and gasped. Inside were tiny figurines of animals, a magnifying glass, and a note from Mr. Chen: “Congratulations, Sophie! You completed the Library Adventure. Thank you for helping us test the clues for our new reading challenge.”

Sophie laughed with joy. She felt proud of herself for being observant, patient, and curious. Not only had she solved the library mystery, but she had also discovered new sections and books she had never explored before.

After returning the figurines to Mr. Chen, Sophie picked a few more books to borrow for the week. She chose a biography of Marie Curie, a book about space exploration, and a story about a young detective. Carrying her backpack carefully, she walked home in the rain, eager to read and share what she had learned with her family.

That evening, Sophie wrote in her reading journal about her adventure in the library. She drew a map of the clues, wrote what each note said, and described how it felt to follow the treasure hunt. Sophie realized that libraries were not just places to read—they were places to explore, solve problems, and discover exciting adventures.

From that day on, Sophie visited the library with even more excitement. She encouraged her friends to try the Library Adventure and promised to help them when they followed the clues. Sophie knew that the library was a magical place, full of surprises, and every visit could bring a new adventure.
