Winston and Julia share parallel views on the Party yet contrast in their motivations. Discuss.

Winston and Julia both share a similar distaste for the Party, the totalitarian regime that governs the dystopian society of Oceania. They are both dissatisfied with the Party’s oppressive control over every aspect of people’s lives, constant surveillance, and manipulation of history. However, their motivations for rebelling against the Party differ significantly.

Winston’s motivations for rebelling against the Party are complex and multifaceted. As a middle-aged man, he is disillusioned with the Party and its leader, Big Brother. He has an innate longing for individual freedom and a deep-seated belief that there must be a better way of living than under the Party’s oppressive rule. Winston is highly critical of the Party’s propaganda and seeks to challenge and question the Party’s version of reality.
