The protagonists in Kazuo Ishiguro’s book “Never Let Me Go” are all looking for happiness, but they all have different ideas of what that entails. One example of this is Ruth, one of the novel’s main characters.

Ruth is originally shown as being outgoing and self-assured, but as the story goes on, it becomes apparent that she is actually very insecure and longs for something more. She confesses to her pals Kathy and Tommy that she hopes to be a “possible”
