Explain how far you think Shakespeare presents the Nurse as more of a mother to Juliet than Lady Capulet.

Motherly Qualities

Shakespeare depicts the Nurse as having maternal traits that make her more like a mother to Juliet than Lady Capulet. Juliet receives emotional support and direction from the Nurse, who is portrayed as nurturing and caring towards her. For instance, the Nurse consoles Juliet when she is upset about Romeo’s exile by saying, “I think it best you married with the County. He’s a really nice guy, I must say” (Act 3, Scene 5).
