The group is interrupted by a series of strange events, including the murder of Bartholomew Sholto, Thaddeus’ twin brother. Holmes deduces that a mysterious figure known as Jonathan Small is seeking revenge for the treacherous betrayal of the Agra treasure heist.
Through their investigation, Holmes and Watson discover that Small, accompanied by a band of Sikh accomplices, tracked down Major Sholto to England in search of the treasure. However, the Major and his sons had managed to keep the treasure hidden. Small later formed a pact with the Andaman Islander Tonga, who becomes his loyal and deadly henchman.
The trail leads Holmes and Watson to a deserted house on the Thames, where they confront Small and his henchman. After a thrilling chase, they capture Small and uncover the hidden treasure. Small explains that the treasure, which holds great value, would be used to fund a revolution in India against the British Empire.
In the end, Small is apprehended, and justice is served. Mary Morstan inherits her father’s share of the treasure, and she and Watson develop a deep affection for each other. Holmes, as always, remains the enigmatic and brilliant detective, solving the case and bringing the culprits to justice.
