How does Ishiguro present the influence of life at Hailsham on the lives of Kathy,Tommy and Ruth?

Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go- Paper 2 Modern texts and poetry – June 2018

The haunting and provocative book “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro examines issues of love, identity, and mortality through the lives of its three main characters, Kathy, Tommy, and Ruth. The story, which is set in a dystopian version of England, follows the lives of these three young people as they grow up in Hailsham, a remote boarding school where the students are being prepared for an unknown goal.

Ishiguro depicts the impact that living at Hailsham had on Kathy, Tommy, and Ruth’s lives in a number of significant ways throughout the entire book. First, he demonstrates how the Hailsham upbringing affects the characters’ sense of identity and belonging. Second, he investigates how Hailsham affects their emotional states and interpersonal relationships.
