Jane’s Early Life and Influential Female Figures

Jane is raised by her cruel aunt and cousins at the beginning of the book, who treat her badly and make her feel unwelcome. She does, however, come across some strong female role models who have an impression on her. For example, Miss Temple, her schoolteacher, becomes a maternal figure and a source of comfort for Jane.
